Chicken/Huku/Inkukhu Project

Feeding Hope, One Flock at a Time

Why This Project Matters

Good nutrition is essential for the healthy growth of every child. Our Broiler Chicken Project was started to provide fresh, protein-rich meals for the children at Patricia Jabangwe Children’s Home. Currently, our small-scale setup produces chickens mainly for domestic consumption, ensuring our children enjoy balanced, wholesome meals prepared with love. This project has become more than just a food source it’s a lesson in responsibility, teamwork, and sustainability for the children who help care for the chickens.

Our Current Setup

We rear small batches of broiler chickens in clean, well-maintained pens. The children actively participate in feeding, cleaning, and monitoring the flock’s growth, learning valuable agricultural and life skills in the process. However, our current capacity is not enough to feed the home for the full month, and that’s where we hope to grow with your support and the help of experts.

Our Vision for Growth

With additional funding and expertise, we aim to expand this initiative into a sustainable poultry project that can feed the home and generate income to support other programs. Our plans include:

Partner with Us

Each stage brings us closer to food security, independence, and empowerment.

Phase 1: Expansion (Current)

  • Begin selling surplus chickens to local families and markets
  • Introduce small-scale training for youth and community members
  • Partner with local feed suppliers and veterinary experts

Phase 2: Community Integration (Next 12–18 months)

  • Increase the number of chickens per batch
  • Improve housing and feeding infrastructure
  • Strengthen health management and record-keeping

Phase 3: Sustainability & Impact (Beyond 18 months)

  • Establish a self-sustaining poultry unit that fully meets our food needs
  • Generate surplus income for reinvestment into other children’s home projects
  • Explore egg production and value addition (e.g., packaged chicken portions)

We need to scale production so the project can fully meet the home’s monthly poultry needs and produce a consistent surplus for local sale moving from small batches to a dependable, revenue-generating unit within the next 12–18 months.
  • 🐥 Sponsor a Batch: Help us feed our children year-round.
